icwrdep (3)Following the success of the first international seminar held in 2015, the Department of Water Resources Engineering (WRE), Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) held The 2nd International Conference of Water Resources Development and Environmental Protection (ICWRDEP). This international seminar on water resources development and environmental protection will be held for two days on 14-15 September 2017.

Located at the 4th and 5th floor of the New Building of Water Resources Engineering, this seminar was opened by the Dean of the UB Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, MT. In his speech, Dr. Pitojo welcomed the honorable keynote speakers, all participant, and congratulates the committee who successfully arrange the conference.

The Dean also hope that this conference can give input to government especially in the field of water resources engineering. “We bring all the experts who have understanding in integrated WRE so we can discuss a solution for a better environment and better water resources, and bring a new idea for a better water security,” he said.

In addition to four keynote speakers, the afternoon program was followed by a presentation by the other43 speakers.

This ICWRDEP activity is expected to provide a place for scientific discussions for the water resources community, especially for students of magister and doctoral programs in water resources. In addition, ICWRDEP is expected to present the latest technological developments and methods in efforts to manage Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, given the increase of land degradation and declining of the current environmental carrying capacity.

icwrdep (1)The Head of Department of Water Resources Engineering FT-UB Ir. Moh. Solichin, MT. Ph.D. said that the problem of water resources development and environmental protection is not only felt in Indonesia but also in the world. The difference is that water treatment in some countries such as Malaysia and Japan is more advanced when compared to Indonesia.

“Some rivers in Indonesia such as the Brantas and Ciliwung Rivers appear polluted and dirty, while in some developed countries their rivers seems to be cleaner. It’s  because the management of water and sewage is more orderly done. So, with this international seminar is expected to open a big opportunity for joint research with universities in Malaysia, Thailand , Japan and Australia in order to provide a better water resources development,” he said.
