Undergraduates Program of Water Resources Engineering (WRE), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) achieved the accreditation of ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). Thursday (19/Jan/2016), located at Satya Tirta Department of Water Resources Engineering, The Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir Mohamad Bisri MS present to give a speech at this tasyakuran. At the same time also held a full duty event for Mas’ud Anwar, BE, senior laboratory assistant of WRE Department.

The first and oldest WRE department in Indonesia is the first department in FT-UB that having AUN-QA certification. Visitation activity has been carried out on November 8 to 10, 2016. The team of assessors who visited the AUN-QA Water Engineering consists of Assoc.Prof Dr. Tan Kay Chuan (National University of Singapore) and Prof. Dr. Myrna S. Austria (De La Salle University, Philippines).

“FT-UB to became an eminent institution in the field of engineering in Asia, AUN-QA certification enhances the competitiveness of the Faculty of Engineering at the international level,” said Prof. Bisri in his speech. He hopes there will many majors in UB will follow the step in order to increase the ranking of UB in international level.

Similar things also presented in the speech delivered by the Head of the Department Ir. Moh. Sholichin, MT., Ph.D., he thinks that the main goal of AUN-QA is to support the implementation of the learning process which always improves continuously.

“Therefore, the certificate is not the main objective, but rather to get advice-input to improve the courses,” says Ir. Sholichin motivate all Academician of WRE Department to continue improving the quality of education in the Department which has just had a new lecture building.

ASEAN University Network (AUN) is a network of several universities in ASEAN with the aim of strengthening the network in the field of cooperation among several major universities in ASEAN to promote cooperation and solidarity among students and academics in ASEAN, resource development academics and professionals, as well as the dissemination of information to the academic community. AUN-QA (AUN-Quality Assurance), which was founded in 1998 aiming to develop a network of quality assurance as a means to achieve and maintain a high-quality education.

Benefits for university and study program which has been certified by AUN-QA, the study program is equivalent to other high-quality university study programs in ASEAN. Opportunities for participation in AUN-QA program, and/ or projects and develop initiatives with partner organizations of ASEAN. Adding a network in the ASEAN meetings CQO (Chief Quality Officer) AUN-QA and conferences were organized AUN-QA. Given the opportunity and priority to attend AUN-QA workshops and training courses, as well as share best practices in the AUN-QA and various information related to quality assurance. In addition, students in an AUN-QA certified study program can do a credit transfer to other universities that have been certified.

And in his speech, the Head of WRE Department also expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Exemplary Laboratory Mas’ud Anwar, BE who has completed his service to the FT. Ir. Sholichin hopes that the example given by Mas’ud can be passed on by the next generations of Hydraulics Laboratory.

The event then continued with the award and a memento giving for Mas’ud Anwar and continued with the tumpeng cutting. And after closed with a prayer, tasyakuran then followed by lunch together. (seb)
